Fast Foot Jam

Fast Foot Jam is a new jazz dance event launching in June 2025 in Marrickville, Sydney. Created by local dancers, it celebrates fast jazz music through styles like Collegiate Shag, Balboa, and Lindy Hop. The weekend will include workshops, performances, competitions, and plenty of social dancing to top-tier Australian swing jazz.

Role: Graphic Designer, client communication

Project Context: Independent Organizer

Product Type: Logo, Social Media Banner

Duration: 2 weeks

Tools: Figma, Procreate, Adobe

Problem

Fast Foot Jam is seeking branding materials that reflect the energy and style of their fast-paced jazz dance event. They need a logo that captures the spirit of the weekend, along with adaptable social media icons and post banners that can promote the event consistently across platforms.

Solution

To represent Fast Foot Jam, I’m exploring designs that convey a sense of movement to capture the “fast” energy of the event, incorporate foot or dance-inspired elements to highlight its connection to jazz partner dancing, and include musical motifs to reflect the “jam” aspect—clearly tying the branding to its jazz roots. The goal is a cohesive visual identity that’s vibrant, rhythmic, and instantly recognizable across all platforms.

Mood board

The Options

The Fast Foot Jam mood board draws inspiration from old black-and-white cartoons like Betty Boop, using their grainy, vintage style to emphasize bold, legible design rooted in jazz history. This aesthetic not only reinforces the event’s musical roots but also adds a playful, nostalgic tone. Key visual elements—such as the ghost, clown, and Betty Boop—nod to the iconic Man on the Mountain episode featuring Cab Calloway, creating a subtle historical easter egg that ties dance, music, and animation together in a meaningful and visually striking way.

Branding

The logo and banners for Fast Foot Jam were developed using the existing color scheme from the completed website. This provided a strong foundation for creating cohesive visuals, allowing for consistent branding across platforms while maintaining flexibility in how the designs are applied. The result is a unified and versatile identity that ties seamlessly into the event’s online presence.

2 Final Assets

Two final assets were delivered for Fast Foot Jam: the main logo with a transparent background and a bottom Instagram banner instead of a full-edge one. Additional fun variations, like a version of the logo with a circular background, were also provided for flexible use.
