Dance Marleys
Dance Marleys is a dance shoe brand mainly targeted at swing dancers. They feature a comfortable and unique design that is focused on the feel of dancing and taking care of your long term health. Dance Marleys is focused on creating a story focused on the culture and history of the dance, while also incorporating the fun and honest feeling in their design.
Role: Graphic Designer, client communication
Project Context: Dance Shoe Brand
Product Type: Shoe sole design, Box Motif, Eventual Merchandise
Duration: 3 months, August-Nov 2025
Tools: Figma, Procreate, Adobe
Problem
Dance Marleys is seeking branding materials that reflect the energy and style of their comfortable and ergonomic shoe design. They want to keep a casual and friendly vibe, but also bring in the culture and history of jazz dance. Eventually, they will be looking to make merchandise but their immediate focus is on a motif used for packaging, and a design for the sole of the shoe to be laser printed.
Solution
To represent Dance Marleys, I’m exploring designs that convey a sense of culture and history while also keeping a fun and fresh vibe. I want to bring in dance-inspired elements, and include musical motifs to create a simple yet repeatable design. The goal is a cohesive visual identity that’s vibrant, fun, rhythmic, and tells a story.
Style Guide
For this project I provided the client with a style guide to give references of multiple designs and options in one file. This allowed the client to view the designs side by side, while also giving context to the design decisions and possible directions we could take them.
Final Designs
2 Final Assets
Two final assets were delivered for Fast Foot Jam: the main logo with a transparent background and a bottom Instagram banner instead of a full-edge one. Additional fun variations, like a version of the logo with a circular background, were also provided for flexible use.
Reflection
What I Learned
Have a story
As I first came up with designs for this project nothing really spoke to me until I found an idea that told a story. Okra soup and the history interwoven to the history with jazz, really created a unique design direction.
Be adaptable
When I first designs the full sole design for the shoes, I was so excited. But after testing and realizing it wasn’t doable, I had to shift to a completely different idea than we started with. Ultimately it was for the best.
